Ascending along the mountain trail
Growing tired with each passing step
All fellow hikers gone behind him
The sun sets slowly upon the valley
He steps onward
Gripped by a bitterness and cold
A fog in the distance
Approaches unnoticed behind him
Catches the last glimpse of sunlight
The sunlight's radiant glow
The black cloud swoops in behind him
Bringing with it rain and hail
He slowly cowers under his tent
Then he unearths himself
But ahead of him all is white
An unchanging hue
The fog sets in around him
Panic springs forth

And finds himself back at the place where he started
Managing to regain his bearings
He takes the dangerous path up the glacier
Reaches the top of the mountain
With only a torch to indicate that he's on the right path
He finds hope under a rock
A rock which will serve as his dwelling for the night
Frostbitten and cold
He sleeps nestled uncomfortably in this somber yet safe stead
As he waits eagerly for the morning
Finally able to rest his head
Comes a flashback
A lonesome autumn evening
In a chair on the balcony
The precious memories
Ever distant under the night's glow
He attempts to find solace in them
But only leads to brooding anguish
Memory of a smile
A delicateness
The softness of your gaze
The glimpse of which is only tenuously visible
As live moves unceasingly on
The fleetingness of each moment
Only a reminiscence of a former self now forever gone
